MARÍA TERESA DE CALCUTA

María Teresa de Calcuta, also known as Mother Teresa, was born on 26 August 1910 but she considers her “true birthday” the 27 August (the day she was baptised).

She left home at age 18 to join the Sisters of Loreto as a missionary. She never saw again her mother and sister.

Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic religious congregation, which in 2012 consisted of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133 countries. They help people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy, tuberculosis...

She received a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and the title of “Blessed Teresa of Calcutta” in 2003.

One of the most celebrity quote she ever said was: "By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus."

She died on 5 September 1997 with a long life lived and a place in the eternity of history.
